Women-Centered Organizations to Support

Women-Centered Organizations to Support

March is Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate and honor the amazing women who have impacted our world and society. Initially started as Women’s History Week in 1981, the month-long commemoration of trailblazing women has been celebrated since 1987.

It is a perfect time to connect with fellow women, feminists, and people fighting for the right towards gender equality, which yes, is still incredibly necessary even in 2022.

To honor Women’s History Month, here are five women-centered organizations you can support this month, whether that be by volunteering, fundraising, donating, or even bringing awareness.

1. Women for Women International

Women for Women International works to provide support, career, and financial guidance to marginalized women who live in countries affected by war and violence. By providing this time of community access and care, WFWI makes a difference by providing women with the skill set to be independent. You can support them by shopping for products, donating, or by volunteering. They are currently accepting donations for the crisis in Ukraine.

2. Black Trans Femmes in the Arts

Black Trans Femmes in the Arts (BTFA) is an organization whose mission is to create spaces for the production and preservation of Black trans art and culture by building community with Black trans femme artists and providing them with the resources and support necessary to thrive. Through public programming, BTFA connects Black trans femme artists with each other and with the larger art community. They organize events that exclusively cater to Black trans femme artists and curate art showcases that are open to a larger public audience. You can donate, get involved, or even apply to be a part of their collective here.

3. FEMME HOUSE

FEMME HOUSE fosters more equitable opportunity for women and gender-expansive individuals in the technical and behind the scenes areas of music. Originally created by house music DJ and icon LP Giobbi, FEMME HOUSE helps to create and uplift future producers, mixers, engineers, DJs, artists, and executives of the music industry by providing education and scholarships, cultivating community, propagating visual representation, and offering professional development opportunities. They hold a yearly DJ apprenticeship scholarship program exclusively available to BIPOC artists. You can support and get involved here!

4. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence serves the community as its mission is to lead, mobilize, and raise voices to support the efforts that demand a change of conditions that lead to domestic violence. They actively work to support gender equality and the end for violence in domestic settings by combrating factors such as patriarchy, privilege, racism, sexism, and classism. They are dedicated to supporting survivors and holding offenders accountable and supporting advocates. You can support them and learn how to take action by visiting their website here

5. The Loveland Foundation

The Loveland Foundation was established in 2018 by Rachel Cargle in response to her widely successful birthday wish fundraiser, Therapy for Black Women and Girls. Her enthusiastic social media community raised over $250,000, which made it possible for Black women and girls nationally to receive therapy support. Black women and girls deserve access to healing, and that healing will impact generations. The Loveland Foundation is the official continuation of this effort to bring opportunity and healing to communities of color, and especially to Black women and girls. Through fellowships, residency programs, listening tours, and more, ultimately we hope to contribute to both the empowerment and the liberation of the communities we serve. Interested in supporting and getting involved? Check out their website here!

As we continue with Women’s History Month

It is imperative we familiarize ourselves with the resources, organizations, and advocacy that is offered and can potentially transform the lives of women all over the world. There are a plethora of organizations committed to helping women and the fight against gender equality. We implore you to find some organizations that resonate with you and get involved. Serving your community only takes one small step!
